Rev. Dr. George Shears III is a passionate preacher with a powerful voice for this generation. His enthusiasm for Christ is contagious, and his messages are electrifying. He is a sought-after preacher who is known for making it plain. Through sound doctrine and a heart for pastoral care, Pastor Shears shares the Gospel in a way that people of all walks of life can understand.
Pastor Shears has received his Bachelor of Science degree from Benedict College in Columbia, SC, a Master of Divinity degree from Gardner-Webb University, a Masters of Sacred Theology from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry at Charlotte Christian College & Theological Seminary.
Pastor Shears faithfully serves as the pastor of the New Hope Baptist church. One church in two locations. Under the leadership of Pastor Shears, Greater Fellowship has seen tremendous growth in its membership and increased community involvement and partnerships. Pastor Shears has a heart for education and has developed an on-demand teaching portal where anyone can learn and grow in their faith. He is the chief editor of a weekly newsletter called Preaching Guru, whose mission is to better preachers and church leaders.
Pastor Shears considers his first ministry to be his family – his wife, Kiya Ward Shears, and their two sons. Pastor Shears enjoys reading, writing, and playing golf. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, and works with many other organizations to raise awareness about social issues.
